3 weeks breastfeeding issue

Honey27 4 Rep.

I have a 3 week old baby and have been breastfeeding successfully with lots of milk supply but I have mot really been wearing a bra only a crop top. However today I went to get fitted for a nursing bra which I bought and have worn since 5pm, I said to the assistant the band felt slightly tight and she said they will do as needed for support but it did feel comfortable. Basically now I feel like my boobs are not filling up like usual and my baby is only feeding for 2 minutes and then crying and making signs that she wants to feed again. I feel like my supply has gone and the only thing I have changed is the bra. Is this possible?

If a bra is too tight in the cup, it could potentially reduce milk supply over time by causing engorgement. There is more information about nursing bras and the correct fit needed here Nursing Bras FAQ. Going back to your crop top for a day or two might help identify if it is the new bra or not.

Alternatively, sometimes babies cluster feed (feed much more often with shorter intervals between feeds) to increase milk supply because they are having a growth spurt. The best thing to do is contact a breastfeeding specialist such as an International Board Certifed Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who can ask lots of questions to help work out why your baby’s feeding pattern might have changed and check whether they are getting enough milk.
