Advice please

Stupidunicorn 2 Rep.

My son is 16 days old and I thought me and him were doing well. He was breast feeding well apart from my nipples were getting sore so I was advised to use nipple guards, we’d bonded and we also started to establish a routine but then went to get him weighed today and he’s lost weight. Have to have another appointment Monday and I’m worried. Midwife said to feed as normal and top up with formula.

I don’t want to confuse my baby by doing both methods

The best way forward is to see a breastfeeding specialist such as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for a one to one consultation. They can watch a breastfeed, see how much active feeding your baby does at the breast, and make suggestions on positioning, latch, frequency of feeds, and the number of times to pump to bring up your supply based on your situation.
