Can breastfeeding be like Contraception?
I’ve been successfully breastfeeding my now 5 month old son, at first it was rough but we worked thrugh it and now it’s a peice of cake! I partially feed him formula while I’m at work too, he gets “the best of both worlds” so to speak. I don’t need to pump because I’m never engorged anymore, my body has adjusted to only feeding him when I’m home. Kinda cool.
I heard someone tell me once that breastfeeding can be like a contraception? Is that true? Does it actually stop the bleeding? Because other than the postpartum bleeding, I haven’t had my period..
Congratulations it’s lovely to hear that breastfeeding is going well Yes breastfeeding can work like contraception. It’s most reliable as a form of contraception in the first six months of your baby’s life and usually while your baby is exclusively breastfed. Exactly when your period returns varies woman to woman depending on how often your little one feeds night and day. You can read much more about it in Can You Get Pregnant While Breastfeeding?
