Please be respectful
Please be respectful, polite and non judgmental when using this forum so that this will be a safe, friendly place to share information and support on breastfeeding and parenting issues.

Be considerate to others
Please be considerate in your contributions. If you don’t have anything helpful or constructive to say or if you’re not sure whether your post will add to the conversation, take time to think about your choice of words carefully. Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. If you’re not sure if your post could offend, ask yourself how you would feel if your post was featured on the front page of the Guardian or New York Times. It is easy to misunderstand written words, take the time to ask for more information from the original poster if you don’t fully understand what is being asked. Always assume good intent.

Agree to disagree
We won’t all agree with each other about parenting and breastfeeding. You’re welcome to state your opinion as long as this is done respectfully and is consistent with current evidence based breastfeeding recommendations. If you disagree with what is being said please present your counter-arguments in a calm and helpful way without:

  • Name-calling
  • Personal attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone or poor grammar instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk judgments or contradiction

If you don’t agree with breastfeeding or breastfeeding past a certain age, please find another forum, this one is for breastfeeding support. Conversely, if you think formula is ‘evil’ please keep it to yourself and be respectful of those who use it. Every mother’s situation is unique and formula is necessary sometimes (rule one: feed the baby).

Please report any unacceptable posts
In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. The information and opinions posted by users in the forum do not necessarily reflect the views of Breastfeeding Support. Moderators do not preview new posts in any way; therefore the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.

Please help our moderators by reporting unacceptable behaviour. Try not to reply directly to bad behavior or disrespectful posts. Acknowledging them adds fuel to the fire and wastes everyone’s valuable time and emotions. Report it and, if the moderators agree, the post will be removed. User accounts will be banned if necessary. Bad behaviour will not be tolerated.

Keep it clean

  • Be civil, don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech
  • Keep it clean, don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit
  • Respect each other, don’t harass or intentionally upset anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information
  • Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalize the forum

Keep it tidy

  • Try to keep topics in the appropriate category
  • Stay on topic and start a new thread for a new question
  • Respect copyright
  • Use the up vote button if you agree with an answer
